Not sure what you mean by slippery? But am assumbing your using glass tubbing and the ants are not able to gain a foothold. If so? You could try plastic/rubber tubbing. Which I have used with success...

I use plastic tubing you can find in the plumbing section of a store like Home Depot/Lowe's. It's similar to the tubing daveyoung mentioned, but it comes in a wider variety of sizes.
